RWAV provided grants to a group of medical, nursing and allied health students from universities across Victoria to participate in an “Introduction to Aboriginal Cultural Safety in Aboriginal health” workshop at Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) in Collingwood. The facilitators discussed Aboriginal people and communities, the status of Aboriginal health, the impact of history on Aboriginal people, strategies to redress current issues and the Victoria Aboriginal community health sector and closing the health gap.
Students engaged in various interactive activities during the workshop. It was a very successful session with positive feedback from the students. According to the evaluation report, students found it to be well presented and informative.
