Recently, we had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Patrick Campisi an RWAV-employed GP locum, currently residing in Robinvale, a beautiful town located an hour away from Mildura in the Murray River Bay region of northwest Victoria. During our conversation, Dr. Campisi shared his background and career journey, as well as his experiences working in Indigenous health and locum work.
Dr. Campisi remains committed to his work and appreciates the warmth and welcoming nature of the people he serves, particularly in places where there may be no doctor at all or where the doctor is exhausted and needs a break. For Dr. Campisi, the opportunity to travel and explore different towns in Victoria, and learn about their history and what they are famous for, is one of the rewarding aspects of his locum work.
For those considering locum work, Dr. Campisi advises buying a bicycle and taking advantage of the community and local resources. He also recommends making use of educational resources and learning about each unique place visited, giving back to the community, and enjoying the adventure.
