The RWAV Chronic Pain Management Program has commenced in the areas of Hindmarsh and Yarriambiack in Western Victoria. Over the last few months the following activities have been undertaken to assist those living with chronic pain to manage their pain and reduce dependence on opioids:
- Collaborating with Rural North West Health (RNWH) to provide a physiotherapy service to chronic pain patients living in Woomelang. Previously these clients were required to travel to Hopetoun, 30km away, to access this service.
- Advertising a tender for a psychologist to treat patients with chronic pain in the Hindmarsh and Yarriambiack region.
- Working with local regional health services to implement the Wimmera Health Care Group Persistent Pain Program via telehealth. This will allow chronic pain patients across the region to join the six-week group exercise and education sessions based in Horsham, without the need to travel. The program is set to commence on the 5th October.
The program is currently expanding to a second round of priority areas in Gannawarra, Loddon and Glenelg. We welcome any service providers or host locations interested in the program to contact RWAV for more information.
