The Rural Workforce Agency Victoria (RWAV) has refreshed its strategic direction in another step forward to build upon its years of work to improve healthcare access for rural, regional, and First Nations communities in Victoria. The new RWAV 2023-25 Strategic Plan will guide a series of initiatives to provide effective and customised health workforce solutions to support equitable access to quality primary care health services across the state.
Since 1997, RWAV has been a driving force in bridging the healthcare gap between urban centres and regional communities in Victoria. With a strong focus on partnerships, workforce, population health data, and community collaboration, RWAV has consistently worked to improve health outcomes for thousands of individuals in underserved areas.
Guided by the new Strategic Plan, RWAV aims to strengthen its recruitment and workforce support programs by tailoring strategies for priority rural areas to ensure communities in need have equitable access to a sustainable health workforce.
This will involve partnering with local communities, organisations, health services, and health professionals, to enable community-driven, place-based solutions that cater to unique needs of specific regions.
It will also involve increasing advocacy and work to provide data-driven, evidence-based expertise on health workforce issues, to contribute positively towards healthcare reform.
The strategic plan also emphasises RWAVâs commitment to strengthening relationships with First Nations health stakeholders. RWAV will support First Nations communities by working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) and the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) to address health workforce and holistic health needs.
With stakeholders, partners, and the community at the heart of our efforts, RWAV is excited to start a new chapter towards making a meaningful and lasting impact for the healthcare of communities in country Victoria.
